Welcome to The Odyssey of Verdan

Overview

You have been formally invited to my next D&D campaign: The Odyssey of Verdan. This campaign is not like many of the other D&D campaigns I've run so far. This is going to be a West Marches style game. "What does this mean?", you may ask. It means you are one of many (and I really do mean many) potential players. Below, you will click on two links, one to the discord (if you're not already in it) and the other to Roll20. If you decide to play in this campaign, you will be communicating with other players in the discord to form your own groups for every quest/adventure. Once you've got a group and a quest or rumor to pursue, all that is left to do is decide a day and time during the week in which I can be your Dungeon Master.

The campaign is very open-world style, as you must navigate the various regions of Verdan, each region becoming more and more dangerous than the last, in order to reach your destinations. Traveling in itself is a dangerous ordeal as every day might lead to an encounter. But fret not, as you will always have a bed to return to at Willow's Cove; a colony established by the free merchants of the world. Willow's Cove has many things to offer, including a large tavern, a couple places of worship for the different dieties, a moneychanger, a library, a bath-house, and more. Willow's Cove is where your characters will be staying in between adventures. Please note that due to the more asynchronous playstyle of the West Marches type of campaign, there is a very high likliehood that not everyone will always be at the same level. You will gain levels based on what and how many quests you complete and/or rumors you investigate. And yes, unfortunately I am going to be an ass and ask you to keep track of ammunition, rations, carry weight and more, but I believe it will add more to this style of play. That being said, if it proves to be needless and tiresome, we might remove it.

So if this interests you at all, please click on the links below, and contact me, letting me know you're interested in joining.

I might add that there are a couple rules that I would like you all to follow:

  • 1. Don't be an ass to the other players
  • 2. Please include at least one new person anytime you go on a new quest or adventure
  • 3. Party limit is 4-5 players, but the limit may be surpassed in unique circumstances
  • 4. Make a level 1 character, and you have 40 gold in addition to your starting equipment (alterntaively 120 gold to spend on equipment)
  • 5. For chracter creation, set your ability scores to 0. You have 78 points to distribute among these scores. You must have at least a 7 in all scores and no more than 17 in any score prior to racial bonuses.
  • 6. We are going to use Tasha's ruling for racial bonuses, meaning disregard any ability score improvements given by your race, and instead put a +2 in one stat and a +1 in another. If you are confused by this ruling, talk to me.
  • 7. Create 3-5 rumors about your character that may have circulated. Not all of them have to be true... perhaps none of them are true, but whose to say?
  • 8. Please speak to me if you plan on doing any Homebrew when creating your character

Step once back and speak the word of the gamer to unlock my most secret of treasures, but be wary for 'tis our word.

An ancient secret lies within Verdan. Old and forgotten, perhaps it is better that way.

I have cities but no houses, mountains but no stone, water but no fish. What am I>?

What doth be the key to mine riddle?
